Buckner Lane Update

Buckner Lane

With the 2024 opening of the new Buckner Rd Interchange, Buckner Lane is one of several additional roads which will need to be improved to help accommodate traffic flows to and from I-65.

Last week, the City’s design consultant Kimley Horn held a public input meeting to collect input and feedback from the public on the project.

The City is looking to widen Buckner Lane in two overlapping phases. The northern phase is proposed to begin construction first, followed shortly after by the southern phase. The northern phase contains fewer overall properties that will be impacted (and therefore a shorter ROW acquisition period). By breaking into two phases we can ensure the northern phase to be complete prior to the completion of the interchange (with the southern phase to coordinate with the opening of the interchange). You can find the full project overview using this link.

If you were unable to attend, but would still like to provide input, please use this form and submit to Kimley Horn.

Major Road Projects Update

The Buckner Lane project is only one of several major road projects underway in Spring Hill. While physical construction is not yet underway for many of these projects, significant work is occurring to improve our roadway infrastructure. Let’s take a quick look at some of these projects.

I-65 Interchange – NEPA aspect of the project is wrapping up this month. Expect the FHWA and TDOT to sign the development agreement this month as well.

**Side note; NEPA = National Environmental Policy Act. The federal government requires a NEPA study to be completed on any project that uses federal funding.

Highway 31 – TDOT is in the process of hiring a NEPA contractor. NEPA contract expected to be awarded this calendar year.

Duplex Road – Project is scheduled to be complete this summer. Remaining binder will be installed once weather warms and asphalt plants re-open (asphalt plants close in TN during the winter months).

Buckner Rd – City is working with MPO to coordinate widening.

Port Royal / Saturn Parkway Signals – Signals are scheduled to be installed i February. Paving will be finished once asphalt plants re-open.

Saturn Parkway Extension – Bridge work over CSX tracks will begin this spring.

Beechcroft Road – Final paving will be done late spring/early summer. All 3 projects on Beechcroft and the Saturn Parkway extension will be final paved at the same time.

      Hi PJ-
The MPO is a reference to the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. The MPO is established by federal law to facilitate regional infrastructure planning that utilizes federal dollars. The MPO has the authority to plan, prioritize, and select transportation projects for federal funding appropriated by the United States Congress through the United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration; and is responsible to for ensuring the region is in compliance with federal planning requirements.
