Road Closures Along Duplex Road
You’ve likely already noticed, but both Port Royal Rd and Commonwealth Rd have had road closures this week.
350 linear feet of Port Royal Rd south will re-built, widen and paved. This is the where “the hill” is being cut down 6 ft so there is quite a degree of grading and work that needs to be done. It will be closed 11/18/19-11/23/19. Detour will be identified and message boards will be on Duplex.
Commonwealth Dr north needs to be brought to grade and paved. It will be closed 11/21/19-11/22/19. Detour will be identified and message boards in place.
The down side if these aren’t closed these now is asphalt plants close down the first part of December and do not reopen until March. If they miss the window now to do this paving, paving would be delayed by 3-4 months until March which then delays the whole project by 3-4 months.
Additionally, BOMA deferred a request to close Kedron Rd between Hwy 31 and Old Kedron Rd beginning in January. Private development in the area is constructing a turning lane onto their property and requested closure to allow for the work to be completed. BOMA has asked for improved traffic control measures, restricted closure hours and financial assurances the work is completed in a timely manner. BOMA will take up the matter again in December.
Battle of Spring Hill
November 29th will mark the 155th Anniversary since the Union Army and Major General John Schofield slipped past the Confederate forces led by General John Bell Hood in Spring Hill.
Rippavilla will be hosting a special candlelight tour in commemoration of the Battle of Spring Hill. If you’ve never visited Rippavilla, you need to. The mansion and museum at Rippavilla offer a terrific opportunity to learn about the history of Spring Hill and the subsequent fighting in Franklin.
