Summer Newsletter

Some quick notes on City business over the last three months. I hope you all are enjoying your summers and will find time for a family vacation!

2016/2017 Budget Passed
Your Board of Mayor and Aldermen once again passed a balance budget for our new fiscal year which begins on July 1. Some highlights include;
– Property taxes remain set at $0.59 per $100 of assessed value.
– Over $6,000,000 will be spent on road way improvements in the coming year.
– Our Police and Fire departments with both add 4 new officers/firefighters.
– The City will hire a second City Planner, a much needed position!
– Long awaited storm water projects are fully funded.

If you’d like to see the full budget; click here. I’d welcome any feedback, thoughts or concerns.

Duplex and Hwy 31 widening
The City is entering the final stages of acquiring the 220+ tracts of right-a-way to widen Duplex Rd. Spring Hill is down to less than 40 price negotiations to be completed, which we expect to wrap up by the end of summer.

The City continues to invest local dollars to the design of a five lane Hwy 31. A working concept is being finalized for submission to TDOT  over the next few months.

Please plan to attend a Transportation Advisory Committee meeting on the third Monday of the month to learn more about projects in Spring Hill.

GM Plant Continues to Grow
Spring Hill’s GM manufacturing facility announced an investment of $790 million dollars and 792 new jobs to be created as GM prepares to launch a new high-efficiency engine program in Spring Hill. You can read more about the announcement here

Consultant Hired to Assist with Zoning Ordinance Update
Camiros, a nationally recognized land use and planning firm, was hired by the City to assist in the re-write and update of our Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision regulations. While this may not sound important, these two documents will effect land use, planning and development for decades to come. This project will take approximately 12 months to complete. I highly encourage anyone with a concern for the long term vision of Spring Hill to participate in the public survey, focus groups and meetings to be held.

Pickin’ In the Park
Spring Hill’s monthly music event began its summer season on May 21 in Harvey park. Click here for more information on your outstanding local performers.

Port Royal Park Splash Pad
The Splash Pad at Port Royal park opened for the summer season Memorial Day weekend. Make plans to visit!
